10. Stay at 20 places (B&B’s, motels, hotels) etc and post a blog on each

Crown Metropol

Experience contemporary luxury in its purest form at Melbourne’s new Crown Metropol hotel. That’s what it says on their website and that was my experience. L.U.X.U.R.Y.

Erin and I stayed 2 nights at Crown Metropol as a mid winter holiday and to celebrate our birthdays (which are 2 weeks apart). We booked on wotif.com and stayed in a Luxe Room, which normally costs $900 a night. We got a 2 night deal for $270 a night. It was luxury, pure and simple. The hotel is less than 12 months old and is sparkly new with staff that are professional and attentive. We spent the weekend shacked up in our luxury room and at the Isika Day Spa that includes an infinity pool (that overlooks the city), plunge pool, relaxation deck and gymnasium. I felt like I had died and gone to heaven…

Erin loves Rebecca Barnard from Rebecca’s Empire. Rebecca started work at my work last Friday so I asked her for her autograph as a surprise present for Erin’s birthday. Rebecca was lovely and seemed genuinely happy to sign an autograph and wish Erin a happy birthday. Erin is pictured here holding the photograph. Big brownie points for me…

Erin is pictured above holding her gluten free, organic rocky road ‘birthday cake’ that I bought her for her birthday.

The in-house dining menu was designed by Gordon Ramsay and was sensational. I am pictured above ready to tuck into a gourmet steak sandwich with fries. It’s the little things that make all the difference. When I have a drink I like to have my drink on ice; nice, fresh clean ice that doesn’t have an after taste. I took a bottle of vodka with me and was worried about the ice ‘situation’. I need not have worried, outside our room was an ‘ice station’. I made regular visits to the ice stations to fill the ice bucket over the weekend. Made my vodka taste all the better.

One of the highlights of Crown Metropol is its pool that overlooks the city. It opens at 6am and closes at 10pm. We were there bright and early Saturday morning at 6am waiting to see the sunrise over ye old Melbourne town. It was a relaxing, serene way to welcome in a new day. If you look close in the picture you will see a hot air balloon.
